In Pakistan, malnutrition affects approximately 20% of the total population. This translates to nearly 40 million people who are not receiving an adequate amount of the necessary nutrients on a daily basis. This represents a nearly twofold increase compared to the percentage of people who are undernourished across the globe. More than 80% of the country’s population faces severe water scarcity.
Across the country, millions of people have no choice but to drink tainted and potentially harmful water, which puts them at risk of dying and exposes vulnerable populations to a wide range of debilitating diseases. Women and children are compelled to spend hours of their day, every day, traversing potentially dangerous terrain in order to collect clean water. Instead, they should be at home, in school, thriving, and content.
How can Musafir help?
Musafir Charity provides water assistance to regions that are lacking in water by installing handpumps in those regions. A hand pump is a device that can provide access to clean drinking water for a home or a small group of people. It is a device that is both compact and effective in its functionality.
We are extremely committed to ensuring that everyone has access to clean water, and we have identified three primary areas in which we believe we can have the greatest impact on bringing about positive social change.
- Promote health and safety through the provision of fresh water supplies.
- Build hand pumps to eliminate the need for women and children to go miles each day to collect water.
- Work directly with the populations we are serving to promote sanitation, health, and hygiene within communities.
